Closest yet

We were in our buildings and around 8:30 or so the building shook and we heard a huge explosion. We went outside to see a cloud of smoke about 200 meters from us. Turns out a mortar had hit but hadn't exploded. Explosive Ordanance Disposal (EOD) was called and they packed 50 or so sandbags around it and blew it up.

Not exactly close, but the closest yet by far. I hope I don't have to experience any closer.

Wow! I'm glad to hear that you are OK! I'm surprised that it made that much noise - since it didn't explode upon impact.

Is your wireless internet still working?

How is the food on base?

The food is good. Too much fried for my tastes but as opposed to other DFACs on base, they trade quality for quantity of choice.

I have video of the controlled detonation and Im going to see if I can edit it down and post it.
